COWBELLA
CowBella's parents were rock-n-rollers. Her dad played guitar in a
band and her mom was the go-go dancer. Pictures of The Beatles, The
Stones and Bob Dylan covered the walls and shelves of their family
home. At six years old, CowBella grew an attraction to the piano by
going to friend's houses and playing songs by ear. She knew she had
talent, so she enrolled herself for lessons. Her parents were so
happy: Their rock genes had reproduced. But teacher after teacher
refused to keep CowBella as a student because she'd learn the songs by
ear instead of reading the notes. So she continued her musical career
by jamming Beatles songs with her dad.
When she hit 14, she felt she had to rebel against her rocker parents.
The only way to do this was to get into the one thing they hated most:
Opera. CowBella studied Opera and classical piano at McGill University
till the age of 19. At 19, she felt she had to rebel even further, so
she ran away from home to live in a trailer park in Florida where she
discovered hip-hop. She came back to Montreal at 20 with a new-found
love for music. She joined about 10 bands and met Sid and Kim at a
party one night and they decided to jam. This was the beginning of
Creature. Within the first week of jamming with Sid and Kim, CowBella
felt like she found her mission in life, a place where she could
express and discover herself artistically. She quit every other band
and made Creature her only artisitc outlet. Her parents have come and
rocked out at every Creature show in Montreal.
